PAGOH: A deputy chairman of Lembaga Pertubuhan Peladang (LPP), YB Tuan Haji Khairuddin bin A. Rahim recently visited the Malaysia-Japan Advanced Research Centre (MJARC) facility, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia to meet with the MJARC research team which consists of researchers and engineers from UTM. The purpose of the visit was to understand and discuss work progress and future directions of the research work carried out by the respective workstreams and to explore the possibility of collaborative research and development between LPP and MJARC.

The visit held on 23 February 2020 (Sunday) was hosted by Dr Pramila Tamunaidu from MJARC. The visit started with the introduction of the establishment of MJARC followed by the introduction of subcritical water (SCW) technology and process demonstration. The presentation mainly focused on the research theme aims, methodology, potential impact, and how all of these provide meaningful outcomes for the community. SCW technology can treat a wide range of organic waste (food waste, biomass, agricultural waste, etc.) to produce high-quality products such as organic fertilizers and animal feed.

During the demonstration, the YB was shown how agriculture waste such as empty fruit bunch was treated and converted into organic fertilizer. Later, the YB was accompanied to visit planting areas, such as calabash, papaya, pineapple, and sugar cane. All of these plants are grown by utilizing organic fertilizer from SCW technology. The day ended with the photography session. Hopefully, this visit may initiate a connection between LPP and MJARC UTM that will likely lead to research and development collaborations in the future.
