PAGOH: Pagoh Higher Education Hub (HPTP) received an official visit from the Minister of Higher Education Malaysia, YB Dato’ Dr. Noraini Ahmad on 29 June 2020. The Chief Secretary of the Ministry of Higher Education (KPT), the Director of Higher Education and other top management of KPT were also present during the work visit. In addition, top management from Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM), Universiti Islam Antarabangsa Malaysia (UIAM), Universiti Tun Hussein Onn Malaysia (UTHM) and Politeknik Tun Syed Nasir (PTSN) also attended the work visit.

The purpose of the work visit was to discuss the developments in HPTP as well as identify HPTP’s potential and its positive impacts on the economy. The Minister was briefed on the current status of HPTP operation as well as UTM, UIAM, UTHM and PTSN’s progress. After the meeting, the minister had the opportunity to visit the booths set up by each institution and to tour around HPTP.

During the tour, the Minister visited the Malaysia-Japan Advanced Research Centre (MJARC) booth. With a MJARC UTM team led by Dr Pramila, a briefing on MJARC’s developments and an introduction to subcritical water (SCW) technology were given. The presentation on the technology was mainly focused on its research theme aims, methodology, potential impact, and how it could contribute to the community.

The SCW technology is known to be able to treat solid waste, especially biomass from sources such as residential areas, agriculture areas, and livestock farms. The environmentally friendly technology is specifically designed to ease operation and reduce energy usage, which means it can treat a wide range of organic waste (food waste, biomass, agricultural waste, etc.) to produce value-added products such as organic fertilizers and animal feed. Our products, such as the organic fertilizer, captured the interest of the Minister and the Delegator of Sime Darby.

The visit ended with a gifting ceremony for the YB who was willing to visit the MJARC booth and a photography session. MJARC is looking forward to collaborating with KPT and other agencies in order to achieve meaningful outcomes for the community in the future.
