PAGOH: President of manufacturing and engineering, UMW Corporation Sdn Bhd, Dato’ Abdul Rashid Musa has recently visited the Malaysia-Japan Advanced Research Centre (MJARC) facility, Universiti Teknologi Malaysia. The purpose of the visit was to understand and discuss work progress and future directions of the research work carried out by MJARC in subcritical water technology.

The visit held on 5 March 2020 (Thursday) was hosted by Prof. Dr Masafumi Goto from MJARC. The visit started with the introduction of subcritical water (SCW) technology. It was emphasized that environmental friendly SCW technology can treat a wide range of organic waste (food waste, biomass, agricultural waste, etc.) to produce value added products such as organic fertilizers and animal feed.

After the introduction, the president and his team have been enlightened by a demonstration of the process. They were shown how agriculture waste such as empty fruit bunch was treated and converted into organic fertilizer. By converting wastes into value added products could provide meaningful outcomes for the community. Hopefully, this visit may explore the possibility of collaborative research and development between UMW and MJARC in term of manufacturing of this technology locally.
